Todd Heiman welcomed members for a Zoom only regular meeting.
Todd provided us with a brief update on Angela Campbell who is doing well and being attended by her sisters. For the "Did you know" segment he showed us how to update our information on our Clubrunner site. He also proudly shared a photo of his son in flight training after his very first helicopter flight today.
Christ Koivisto - Interim Provost of Vermilion Community College
Chris has been in education for 25 years and currently is serving as Interim Provost, in advance of the proposed creation of Minnesota North College, combining all of the regional community colleges. Vermilion itself is doing well, even with the pandemic, with regard to enrollment and with the sound financial management from our own Shawn Bina. Our law enforcement program is doing better than most also.
Last year they focused upon in person classes, but also offered online classes at the same time as the regular offerings. They have managed well through a difficult time.
The current model for the Community Colleges is with one President, but with local Provosts and local support services. Under the proposed model there will be one President, but at the local campus level there will be academic deans, his being in charge of natural resource programs, but not liberal arts or businesses. Various functions will be combined in the system but each school will retain its athletic programs.
The AA degree will be a common degree with more options for students within this new regional college, once finally approved. No college will close and the combining of the schools is happening in the very near future.
