Guest Speaker Notes

Krista Woerheide - Interpretive Center Director at the International Wolf Center (IWC)

After supervising and leading programming at a Nature Center north of the Twin Cities for 10 years, Krista has been overseeing the daily operations, staff and programming with IWC for the last seven years.

Greg Buckley introduced our guest speaker Krista Woerheide. 

Speaker Highlights:

  • The Wolf Center teaches the world about wolves
  • The center itself has been revamped in the last few years
  • Displays and information have been redesigned
  • The information is based on science and biology
  • Topics involve the wolf/human conflict with education to promote coexistence
  • The Center provides useful scientific information and learning opportunities about management coexistence
  • The Center houses five ambassador wolves that are native to our region, one female and four males
  • The wolves stay at the Center their entire lives
  • Krista reviewed the Ambassador wolf introduction process and how wolves are cared for at the Center

Discussion Notes:

  • The Center can help you if you have an issue with wolves by setting live traps and working with the DNR (Dept of Natural Resources) and Fish and Wildlife
  • The Superior National Forest Project monitors the wolf population
