Members and guests were welcomed to the meeting. Jeff Sundell told a compelling story of an elderly woman in town who has been scammed to provide thousands of dollars and he asks us keep an eye out for such fraud.
Angela Campbell welcomed our guests today, Gary and Cindy Nolte, introduced by Dianne Loughery.
Gary and Cindy Nolte.
Both Gary and Cindy have had a long history with Rotary and their communities, with several international missions.
Rotary's Global challenge is to eliminate polio worldwide. Rotary has surveillance vehicles that go to hotspots to determine if vaccinations need to be done in the region. They showed examples of conditions and difficulties facing the families and those impacted by Polio. Many photos came from their to Niger. We have had 22 cases, worldwide this year, with some retreat due to Covid. When we have become Polio free we also need to go for three years for verification.
Pakistan and Afghanistan are the outliers right now and our Rotary work is along side of the Gates Foundation, as well.
This worldwide effort to eliminate Polio from the globe is one of the most effective and efficient efforts of our Rotary International and something out Club supports annually with an amount equal to the year - $2,022 this year.
