There is not much for reporting but a reminder that at the next Board meeting we will begin to discuss next year's fundraiser. Please forward ideas to him or other Board members.
Topics for Today - Dave Marshall
Dave Marshall is the newest Ely Fire Chief, reportedly the first non-Slovenian Chief in anyone's memory. The fire department dates back to 1889 in Ely. He leads a fire department of 33 paid on-call firefighters, with an authorized level of up to 35 members.
He described the various vehicles in the department, including the Hummer, the main engine, and various older and newer pieces of equipment that the Department uses for response to fires, medical emergency calls, mutual aid responses and the variety of things that they are called for. Ely as a smaller community also makes great use of its equipment by use of previously used equipment from other agencies. They aim for a 40-year life on their pieces of equipment.
He gave a great description of the variety of partners from the neighboring fire departments to the DNR, US Forest Service, the Rescue Squad, and other agencies.
To conclude he showed us some great photos of recant responses, including the Greenwood fire, some local fires of note, also including their participation in the Eagles Nest emergency evacuation drill.
The community of Ely is fortunate to have a person like Dave Marshall leading an exception group of well-trained individuals to help keep us safe.
