Club Update:

Tom Moore - In Angela's absence, Tom made the following announcements:

  • Introduced Mike Murray. Mike is a former member of the St. Cloud Club and has owned a cabin on Burntside Lake for 25 years. He is married, has three adult children, runs marathons and triathlons. He may be joining the Club.
  • No Rotary meeting next week, July 3rd because of the holiday.
  • July 10th the program will be the Casino Fun Night. The presenters are Terri Olson, Lindsay Przybylski & Tom Moore.
  • July 24th no noon meeting, instead there will be a Dinner Social for members and partners/guest. A “MoJo BBQ” at Moondance with an optional pontoon tour of Eagles Nest Lake
  • An electronic invitation was sent to all members.
  • Diane Loughery has decided to not to serve on the Club’s Board of Directors. As a result there is a Board position opening available. If you are interested or want more information contact Tom Moore.

Bridgit Maruska, Director of Parks, Trails and Recreation for the City of Chisholm. Growing up in Duluth, Maruska’s work history includes Executive Director of Camping Services for the Duluth Area YMCA, public relations work for the Duluth Public Libraries, freelance marketing management, and teaching in Duluth area schools. 
 
The Redhead Mountain Bike Park won five acclaimed awards for engineering excellence, environmental initiative, rural vitality, and innovation. A book titled “Mine Scapes: Reclaiming Minnesota’s Mined Lands“ was recently authored by the visionary behind Redhead, Pete Kero.
 
Redhead is featured in two films: “Biketown: A Story of Mountain Bikers, Unlikely Partnerships and Communities They’ve Created” and “Reclaimed: A Short Documentary”.
 
Speaker Highlights:
 
  • It took some very dedicated volunteers to make the featured bike trails happen in the three communities.
  • It is highly recommended that you view the film “Biketown” by clicking on the link below.
  • It will help gain an understanding of how the reclaimed mines and bike trails in Chisholm have transformed this nearby community. (Chisholm first mentioned 6 and a half minutes into the film.)
  • Redhead Mountain Bike Park hosts the Minnesota Cycling Association’s State Championship Race biannually, with riders and crowds exceeding 3,000 people, and the MN Mountain Bike Series Race annually.
  • The Redhead parking lot is filled on the weekends and visitors from all over the state, country, and even world come to ride Redhead, or as some say, “Shred the Red“.
