Club Update - Tom Moore

  • Club Treasurer Update: Ann Johnson has agreed to do the accounting for the club replacing Todd Heiman in September. 
  • Tom and Susan did a podcast with What's Up Ely with Lacey Squier to talk about the student exchange program in the works with Rotary. They also discussed Rotary Casino Night. What a great platform for others to hear what Ely Rotary has coming up. The podcast reaches almost 30,000 people. 
  • Turn in your Casino Night tickets to Terri, no later than Wednesday, 8/14. 
  • Mealey's donated a polywood rocker chair and table set for a Casino Night prize. 
  • Discussed drinks available at Casino night. 
  • Rotary Burger and Brat sale on Friday, 8/9/2024.

Update: Youth Exchange Program - Susan Polege

  • Plans are in progress.
  • Suggest involving students in Rotary activities.
  • Students interested will be applying to district.
  • Stay tuned for more to come.

Ely Memorial High School Yearbook made a request for a Rotary donation. Approved $150.00  pending official form request.
 
Reminder: Official form needs to be filled out for donation requests. The form is found on our website.
 
Speaker Background:  Jon Utecht
Jon is the Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator for North St. Louis County. His role is to manage AIS prevention programs and educate the public on the damaging effects of AIS and the ways to prevent AIS from spreading. 
 
He helps to identify any suspicious and new AIS infestations.  He has several year's experience in water resources programs. 
 
Speaker Highlights: 
  • Jon spoke about various AIS Issues from Rusty Crayfish, Mussel Snails to a variety of different invasive weeds in area lakes.
  • His territory is from Cotton, MN to the Canadian border.
  • He hires supervisors to do boat checks at public landings in the area.
  • Their job is to educate the public, the boat owners, resort owners and also use hot and pressurized water to clean the boats.
