President Heiman welcomed members for a Zoom only regular meeting.
We have a Board meeting on Monday, January 10th, 2022 via Zoom, at 5:00. He introduced Greg Buckley who has requested membership and is President of the Ely and Tower Frandsen banks. He also used the ClubRunner system and showed us all how to send an email to any or all members.
Draft Board agenda will go out later this week to all members and then the Zoom invite only to Board members or those who request an invitation.

The Ely Library in its relatively new building is a Five Star Library, one of only a few in Minnesota and around the country. Beginning in 1922 makes this year its 100th Anniversary on October 7th, with special events planned for this year.
The most checked out book is Iron Lake by William Kent Krueger. From 1942 to 1970, only Bill Langen chaired the Library Board. The Library is primarily funded by City of Ely taxpayers, with other payments from Townships, donations, and the Friends of the Ely Library, a group supported for many years by Rotarian Joe Owens. The Library is used often by tourists and area residents outside of Ely and has more cards issued than citizens. In response to a question she noted that they have a very generous fine grace period but often have books retained by summer residents who just don't get around to returning the materials prior to leaving.
The Library has many programs and activities, both for younger people and adults, with Story Time, trivia games, and recently far more done online. There is an active library discussion group, including one that will read and watch the movie from favorite books of each decade of its existence. One new venture is a Girls Who Code group to get more girls (and boys) interested in computer coding, something done in conjunction with ECR.
The Ely Library is a true asset to our community and Rachel provides wonderful leadership.
