Todd Heiman welcomed the members on Zoom. He gave a brief summary of the Board meeting held Monday night. We will make our Annual Ely Area Food Shelf donation in an amount in excess of $10,500 and he thanked the volunteers who have worked on the project, including Heather Fitzgerald, Pat and Sandy Warner, and Kurt Soderberg. Our raffle permit application is being processed, with a drawing on the final day of the Blueberry/Art Festival, with a booth sponsored by the Club for the weekend. Todd introduced Ward Nelson who is our Foundation Chair for the Rotary Foundation. He reminded us of the goal of The Rotary Foundation is to do good in the world. The goal is to have each member contribute, each year, with $100 as a hoped for contribution. The Foundation was founded in 1905 by Paul Harris and those who give a total of $1,000 are considered Paul Harris Fellows, with 15 in our club today and another working on this status. 

 

The Foundation has raised over $3 billion for projects that are international in one of the seven areas of focus, or regional where a portion of the money comes back to us right here in our club, or Polio Plus where we have worked since the 1980's with the Gates Foundation and WHO to try to eliminate polio in the world. 

 

The Rotary Foundation is a four-star charity, according to Charity Navigator, with 92% of the funds going to program awards and operations. Please consider doing your part to Do Good in the World through the Rotary Foundation.
