Angela campbell's personal story

President Heiman welcomed those at the Grand Ely Lodge and via Zoom. We reviewed the following items:
  1. Next week's meeting will be at 5:30 on Thursday, reported Tom Moore, and we hope to do a pontoon ride on Shagawa, with the Bear Den as the alternative.
  2. The Social Committee reminded us of the proposed Twins game on 9/11/2022, with a cost of $150 per person for the bus ride down or $98 per person if you are already there, with very good seats in a special zone near the dugout. Please RSVP to Lindsay.
  3. Board meeting next month on the 13th, rather than the 6th.
  4. Todd described his work to update our books from a fixed version of Quick Books to an online version and also asked us to consider updating our donor lists with emails.
Presenter Today: Our own Angela Campbell, incoming President.

Angela told us her heartfelt personal story of growing up, coming to understand her commitment to Service Above Self, and of her Faith.

She grew up in a family of restaurateurs, Greek in nationality, who lived in Sioux City, Iowa. She told of working in the family business, learning how to serve, greet, and deal with people. Their family had a tragic fire that her twin sister continued to struggle with as her part in its start. She spoke of her early-in-life child and raising a wonderful son. She was first married in 1970 and divorced, but then married Bill Campbell, a successful attorney with whom she shared a life for many years in Washington DC and New York.

She spoke of how she came to Ely and first leased the wonderful Sandemar resort on Burntside Lake and then purchasing it herself. In the mid-nineties, she discovered her Faith, a strength that remains with her today.

In Ely she has shown her service, first by participating in City commissions to offer her expertise. From that she ran for Mayor and subsequently for the Council where she will remain for another four years. She hosted three Ukrainian students whom she still considers to be family.

A great inspiring story of her life and service as she gets ready to take over leadership of our Club next month. Thank you.
