Margaret Egan, Co-Chair
City of Ely’s Heritage Preservation Commission.

Margaret is one of five Commissioners appointed by the Ely City Council, which established the Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) in 2015.

The mission of the HPC is to Safeguard Heritage, protect and enhance the City's appeal, foster civic pride as well as promote the preservation and continued use of historic sites and structures.

Accomplishments: Ely Community Center listed on National Historic Register (2016).

Gawbow Mural Re-creation; Smithsonian registration of Workman paintings and cleaning of Workman murals; Restoration of Historic Light Fixtures at the High School; a $10,000 State Legacy Grant.

Margaret is originally from Kansas City, MO; she has been a seasonal resident on Wolf Lake for over 30 years and is a full-time resident of Ely since 2021. Her career was in public financial management serving in her last position as Finance Director, for the City of Saint Paul City Council. She is deeply committed to volunteering and was active with NE Minneapolis neighborhood association. She currently serves on the board of Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union and has a deep passion for public libraries.
